Copyright Complaints
A structured process for identifying the work, reviewing evidence, hearing the contributor and deciding whether content stays, changes or leaves.
What this process covers
Use this route for copyright, plagiarism, impersonation, privacy and unlawful-publication concerns involving public member writing.
1. Before sending a complaint
Identify the exact RDC Unsaid page and the specific material at issue. A general dislike, a disagreement with an opinion or the fact that two works share a theme is not enough to establish copyright infringement.
Copyright protects original expression, not an idea, mood, title, fact or common phrase by itself. Plagiarism and copyright infringement can overlap, but they are not always the same question.
Give the claim a spine
A useful complaint lets RDC Unsaid understand the right, the page and the requested action.
2. Information to include
- Your full name and a working email address.
- Whether you are the rights holder or authorised to act for the rights holder.
- A clear identification of the original work, including publication links, files, dates or other evidence.
- The exact RDC Unsaid URL and the contributor writing name.
- An explanation of what has been copied or unlawfully disclosed.
- The action requested, such as temporary restriction, removal, correction or attribution review.
- A statement that the information is accurate and the complaint is made in good faith.
RDC Unsaid may request identity or authority verification before acting on a claim that would remove another person's work.
A complaint is not a conviction
Temporary hiding may protect both sides while facts are checked.
3. What happens after a report
- RDC Unsaid records and acknowledges the complaint.
- The reported work may remain visible, be limited or be temporarily hidden depending on apparent credibility and risk.
- The contributor may be notified and invited to explain, provide drafts, permissions or publication evidence.
- RDC Unsaid reviews the available material and may seek clarification from either side.
- A decision may restore, correct, recategorise, restrict or remove the work.
RDC Unsaid aims to acknowledge a grievance within 24 hours and resolve it within seven days where the issue is within its control. Complex ownership disputes may require more time or a court order. Urgent categories governed by shorter legal timelines are prioritised.
The other side may answer
A fair process allows context without forcing the complainant into direct contact.
4. Response by the contributor
A contributor may provide dated drafts, publication history, permissions, source information or an explanation of independent creation. The response should not harass or contact the complainant directly through RDC Unsaid.
Restoration does not prevent a rights holder from pursuing lawful remedies. Removal does not automatically amount to an admission of infringement.
Patterns matter
The platform may act more strongly when infringement is serious or repeated.
5. Repeat infringement and account action
RDC Unsaid may suspend or close accounts used for repeated, deliberate or serious infringement, impersonation or unlawful disclosure. In assessing a pattern, RDC Unsaid may consider prior removals, explanations, corrective action and the credibility of complaints.
The report channel is not a weapon
Knowingly inaccurate complaints can silence lawful writing and create their own harm.
6. Misuse of the complaint process
Do not submit a complaint to retaliate, censor criticism, obtain private information or interfere with a contributor. RDC Unsaid may reject abusive notices and restrict accounts used for malicious reporting.
Parties remain responsible for their own legal statements. RDC Unsaid may preserve complaint records where necessary for rights protection and legal compliance.
Copyright is not the only emergency
Use the same report form and select the reason that best matches the concern.
7. Privacy, impersonation and safety
Reports may also concern private personal information, confidential material, impersonation, intimate imagery, threats, harassment or child safety. Explain the urgency and include only the information needed to locate and assess the content.
For immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. RDC Unsaid is not an emergency response service.
